Week 20 of Second Trimester
Discover what happens during week 20 of second trimester. Baby development, body changes, symptoms, and a weekly checklist.
What's Happening This Week
Felicitations, you’re halfway along! Another 20 weeks and mini-you will be cooing in your arms. Let’s look at new ideas for painting the nursery now! (make the mother stay away from the paints though!)
Second Trimester is a time of rapid change — for both you and your baby. Every pregnancy is unique, and the information below will help you understand what's happening and how to prepare for the weeks ahead.

Your Body
Your uterus reaches near the level of your belly button around this stage. As it expands upward, it changes posture, balance, and the way surrounding muscles support your body. Blood circulation continues increasing to sustain rapid development.
What You Might Notice
Kicks may begin feeling more consistent now, especially during quiet moments or at night. You may also notice round ligament pain, lower back strain, or increasing appetite.
Your Baby
Your baby’s muscles continue strengthening, making movements easier to feel consistently. Hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes are becoming more visible, while swallowing and movement practice continue daily. The body is now growing more proportionately.

Your Week 20 Checklist
Each week brings new things to prepare for. Here's what expecting parents during week 20 typically track in the BabySteps Companion app. Items are sorted by priority so you can focus on what matters most.
